COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

All courses are given online. The courses are still rigorous and hands-on, but nobody has to commute anywhere! If you have any hesitation about online courses, we can put you in touch with other students to see how the online format has worked for them.

The State Exam Prep Course is perfect for students with some experience who are hoping to improve their technique in order to pass their state tests or test up a level. The courses will cover everything students need to know about the different modes of interpretation, giving them hands-on experience with original (intermediate-level) materials and gaining tools for self-study. In the consecutive portion we will perform exercises in critical listening, comprehension, visualization, memory and note-taking. During the sight and simultaneous course we will break down the skills needed to keep up with high-speed and complex speeches. The students will perform new exercises and acquire the tools they need for precise and accurate interpretation.

The Federal Exam Prep Course is designed for students who are already certified at the state level and are studying for the 2017 oral exam. The courses will cover everything students need to know about the different modes of interpretation, giving them hands-on experience with original, advanced materials and gaining tools for self-study.

Test-Taking and Terminology: As the federal exam test date draws closer, this class will prepare students for exams in general and for the federal exam specifically. Students will learn to study effectively and build confidence. They will be asked to participate in class exercises, categorizing and identifying patterns to their errors and learning to correct them. Two weeks of this session will be devoted to specific terminology and topics that may appear on the federal exam, including DNA, fingerprints, wills, etc. Students will be required to spend time between classes conducting research for presentations. Students will gain first-hand knowledge of specialized topics, building understanding and improving accuracy.

Practical Solutions to Real-Life Interpreting Dilemmas
This 9-week course will include six hours of interpreting skills-building and three hours of ethical practice and discussion. Perfect for bringing your interpreting to the next level, and for anyone hoping to complete their ethics hours.
